Earthen Vessel

© 2002 by Herb Linn

Lord you have made me

from the dust upon the earth

I know that by man’s measure

I possess but little worth

Surely your rod of iron

Would make short work of me…

But the light of the knowledge

of your glory shines within me

And that light will shine on

through eternity

Oh God pour yourself

into this earthen vessel

Shine your precious light

within my heart

Though common and unworthy

I will serve your perfect will

For you have given me a brand new start

And now I’ve laid up treasure

That the world will never see

Because you bowed down graciously

Just to abide in me…

Your earthen vessel

Your earthen vessel

Lord you have molded me

With sure but unseen hands

And though I would not honor you

Your mercy let me stand

I know you could have quenched the spark

Of my meager life

But you worked upon each blemish

With patience and with care

For your perfect sight beheld

the promise there

Oh God pour yourself

into this earthen vessel

Shine your precious light

within my heart

Though common and unworthy

I will serve your perfect will

For you have given me a brand new start

And now I’ve laid up treasure

That the world will never see

Because you bowed down graciously

Just to abide in me…

Your earthen vessel

Your earthen vessel
