We are fortunate in Pennsylvania to have a law allowing children, with parental permission, to be released from school for one hour a week to attend Bible education classes. CBM (Children's Bible Mission), a non-denominational ministry, has offered these classes to students since 1970.  The first classes were held in the Jefferson-Morgan, Carmichaels and West Greene districts.  Initially attendance reached 400 children and volunteers each week.

CBM's goal is to help children apply the truths found in God's Word--the Bible--to their everyday lives.  The one hour program is made up of a 10 minute bus ride to Released Time, and 10 minutes for an opening pledge, singing and Bible review.  Ten minutes of Scripture memorization and a 20 minute Bible lesson complete the program, followed by a 10 minute bus ride back to school.

The Released Time Bible Program of Southwestern Pennsylvania is being conducted in order to accomplish the following goals:

  • Teach the Word of God

  • Promote Scripture memorization and provide opportunity for students to recite Bible verses

  • Reach each student with the Gospel

  • Provide opportunity for each student to respond to instruction given

  • Provide opportunity for students to relate to Christian adults

  • Provide opportunity for adults to develop and use their spiritual gifts.

Other aspects of CBM include:

  • Helping in DVBS

  • Teacher training

  • Family roller skating nights

  • Teen times

  • Backyard Bible clubs

  • Mission trips

CBM also offers Bible correspondence lessons on a variety of subjects to all who enroll in the Mailbox Club and are available for Grade 1 through adult.  Storytime Line, a free, 2-minute Bible story or song over the phone for those able to call Waynesburg toll free (724-852-8659) and Summer Camp are also offered by CBM.

CBM, the sponsoring organization of the Released Time Program in  Southwestern Pennsylvania, is a work of faith, relying on gifts from individuals, groups and churches to carry on its ministries.  The work of Released Time goes on with the faithful help of God's people.  Will you consider being a part of this ministry by sponsoring one or more Released Time students?  All gifts to CBM are tax deductible.

Volunteer!

Redeemed Baptist Church was privileged to house the Albert Gallatin area Released Time Program for the first time in 2001.  Those involved in helping with classes received a great blessing. You will be "provoked" and encouraged by the dedication and commitment of Judy Virgili and Mark Redka, the Released Time leaders.  Their love for Christ and and zeal to spread His gospel is evident as they minister to these young people. Released Time is held at Redeemed Baptist Church every Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for AG Middle School students, and Tuesday from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. for Friendship Hill Elementary students. Be a part of what the Lord is doing in young lives in your corner of the world!
